In 1936, the citizens of Pend Oreille County took control of their future and organized a public utility that they could call their own. Since those momentous beginnings, Pend Oreille PUD has earned a reputation as a pioneer in publicly-owned utility services. We are recognized as one of the first PUDs in the nation to build its own hydroelectric project (Box Canyon Dam), one of the first in the state to build a high-speed fiber optic broadband network, and one of only a handful to provide high-quality drinking water to its customer communities. You’re invited to visit Box Canyon Dam, located just 4 miles north of Ione, Washington on Hwy 31 for tours, camping and swimming.
