kootenaimoyieMoyie Springs was originally just a watering place for thirsty travelers who had discovered the clear spring water bubbling from the ground high above the spectcular Moyie River canyon. The white mans first structure here was a log cabin which served as a small store and over night waystop. The proprietor provided a watering trough for horses and men.

The Spokane-International Railroad began construction of a line up the Moyie River canyon to Canada in the early 1900’s which helped provide the community with employment and both a market and transportation for lumber products. Timber is still a key component of the local economy.

Moyie Springs invites you to visit, enjoy the scenery including the spectacular Moyie Falls and check out the endless outdoor activities to be found here at the confluence of the wild Moyie and onrushing Kootenai rivers. Rafting, canoeing, and jet boating are especially popular and a great way to enjoy the splendor of our road less canyons.  Camping is available at the confluence of the Moyie and Kootenai Rivers at Twin Rivers Resort.

Just east of Moyie Springs after crossing the Moyie River bridge, there is a scenic overlook of the Moyie River canyon and great views of the Kootenai River and Black & Clifty Mountains that overlook Bonners Ferry.

For more information on the area, visit Bonners Ferry’s Visitor Center or the Bonners Ferry Chamber of Commerce.
