The City of Dover has a pround history who has fought to maintain its independence and unique identy since its incorporation in 1988.  Dover provides a unique quality of life to families and individuals looking for the small town life, with easy access to larger cities such as Sandpoint. It is connected to Sandpoint by a paved cycling / walking path and is on Idaho’s Panhandle Historic Rivers Passage Scenic Byway.  Although Dover is predominately a bedroom community, Dover realizes the need to diversify its local economy. Located  5 miles west of Sandpoint, Idaho on Hwy 2, the Village of Dover was historically a lumber town with several large mills.

Although the mill is gone now and replaced by a housing development, the church, community hall and about 10 original homes still survive.
