An unincorporated village, Slocan Park was first settled in 1913 because of its cleared land, a railway siding and nearby sawmills. The sawmills and railway are now gone. The rail bed, however, has become the Slocan Valley Heritage Trail (also called the Rail Trail), a popular biking and cross-country skiing trail which stretches 50 km from South Slocan to Slocan Lake.
