garfieldbaymoonriseThe story goes that when the community wanted to establish a post office that they applied to be called Eagle. Post office officials rejected the request as there was already a community so-named. The first letter was changed to “S” and Sagle was born. Sagle is situated just 5 miles south of Sandpoint. Lake Pend Oreille can be accessed from Sagle via Garfield Bay Road and is the gateway to the communities of Bottle Bay and Garfield Bay. There are accesses to some very nice beaches and camping via this gateway. There is an excellent paved 5- mile bike trail between Sagle and Sandpoint.

Five miles south of Sagle is Round Lake State Park offering camping, boating, fishing and swimming. This park has no electrical hook-ups.

Just north of Sagle before crossing the “Long Bridge” turn west on Lakeshore Drive along Lake Pend Oreille and visit the new WaterLife Discovery Center. There are 3.5 acres of developed interpretive exhibits and a 6.5 acre forested wetland with trails and interpretive signs. This is a new facility created at the site of an old fish hatchery.
